Event Rules & Guidelines

On-the-Water Safety & Courtesy

Safety Equipment: All boats must have all proper safety equipment on board, including PFDs for all crew.

Communication: We will use channel 72 for all official race communication. Channel 16 should be used for emergencies.

Avoid all collisions: Even if you have the right of way, you must try your best to avoid hitting another boat. Safety beats winning every time.

Port and Starboard: If two boats approach on opposite tacks, the boat with the wind on its starboard (right) side has the right of way. The port-tack boat must keep clear.

Same Tack: When boats sail on the same tack, the boat behind or upwind (windward) must keep clear of the boat ahead or downwind (leeward).

Do a 360-degree penalty turn: If you accidentally break a rule or touch a mark, do a quick turn (one 360-degree rotation) to clear yourself, keeping things friendly and avoiding formal protests.

Help those in need: Always stop or offer help to any person or boat in danger, regardless of the race.

Have Fun!
